AUC Students Conducted a Professional Review at the Bülent Ecevit Rehabilitation Center

The Communication Skills course (TCS 201 and TPSY 207) taught by Dr. Emel Yılmaz, Faculty Member of the Department of Visual Communication Design, Faculty of Fine Arts, Cyprus American University, and the Podiatry Applications course (POD109 and POD203) taught by Halide Çoban, Instructor of the Podiatry Department, School of Health Professions, will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bülent Ecevit Rehabilitation Center affiliated with the Ministry. (POD109 and POD203) conducted a field observation at the Bülent Ecevit Rehabilitation Center affiliated with the Ministry on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. AUC students had the opportunity to gain practical experience by observing communication processes, patient referral, and patient-staff relations at the healthcare facility.

AUC Faculty Member Dr. Emel Yılmaz stated that observing students’ communication processes in situ enables them to concretely grasp the theoretical knowledge learned in class.

“This visit was very beneficial in terms of developing our students’ communication skills and interacting with patient groups of different ages,” he said.

Lecturer Halide Çoban stated that podiatry students going out into the field to make observations contributes significantly to their preparation for the profession. Çoban said,

He stated, “For our students, these types of visits are a great opportunity to gain clinical awareness and observe real patient experiences.”

Dean of the Faculty of Education, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alp Karaca, stated in his remarks regarding the event that this visit, carried out within the scope of the Communication Skills course, was both a demonstration of the joint and coordinated work of the two faculties and of great importance for the professional development of the students. On the other hand, Karaca stated that collective academic production strengthens university culture and that the experience students gain in the field is extremely valuable.

AUC School of Health Sciences Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Turgay Akalın stated that podiatry students observing real patient environments contributes significantly to the development of their professional skills. Akalın emphasized that such visits strengthen students’ adaptation to clinical processes.
