Guidance and Psychological Counseling

Purpose of the Program

The program has been prepared to contribute to personal and professional development through theoretical knowledge and applications. The undergraduate program has two main purposes: (1) To provide psychological counselor candidates with a general psychological counseling and guidance formation. (2) To train psychological counselors needed by health and industrial institutions, especially educational institutions. Students attending the program will learn about human development, psychological foundations, socio-cultural foundations, educational foundations, helping skills, group psychological counseling and guidance skills, professional development, individual recognition and evaluation, statistics, research, and program evaluation, ethics in the field of guidance and psychological counseling. and gain competencies regarding legal issues.

Vision

Sensitive to people, society and changes and problems in the world, comprehending the new paradigms of his profession in the 21st century, adopting the humanist and existential philosophy of life, gaining adequate and ethical responsibility in his profession; uses information and communication technologies effectively; education, health, justice, social service, industry, etc. To train psychological counselors who can provide qualified psychological services in institutions.

Mission

The Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance has set as its mission to train Psychological Counselors who are open to the changes needed by the country in the face of cultural, economic and technological changes, are productive, have adopted ethical principles, and engage in high-quality scientific research and development activities. In this context,

  1. To train Psychological Counselors (Guidance Teachers) who are competent in school psychological counseling, family counseling, career counseling and industrial counseling, which are needed by the Ministry of National Education and other public institutions and organizations,
  2. To train faculty members needed by higher education,
  3. To train psychological counselors who support individual and institutional development, as needed by public institutions and organizations as well as the private sector,
  4. To support the professional competencies of teacher candidates,
  5. To provide in-service training as well as psychological counseling services needed by our university’s students, faculty members and administrative staff,
  6. Organizing conferences, seminars, panels within the scope of social responsibility or contributing to the organizing institutions and organizations,
  7. To carry out educational activities and research projects and provide consultancy services in cooperation with faculty members in different disciplines and public institutions and organizations,
  8. To support our students to become individuals who are sensitive to social problems, can take personal and social responsibility, and can create opportunities to make a positive contribution to society,
  9. To make our students a part of their lives by providing them with knowledge, skills and experiences that will improve their general quality of life, especially university life.

Program Description

The Department of PDR tries to train psychological counselors who focus on the adaptation problems of students in educational institutions and try to solve them, regulate the relationships between teachers, students, families and friends, and aim to improve their communication skills.

Registration and Admission Conditions

Within the framework of the regulations determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), student admission to this program is through the examination system conducted by the Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Student registration procedures are carried out within the framework of the principles determined by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Every year, the Rectorate determines and announces the registration date, required documents and registration places for prospective students who will first register to the University, according to the units. Registration procedures are carried out by the Student Affairs Department. Final registration is not possible with incomplete documents or by mail. Those who are found to have falsified documents are not recorded. If it is determined that the recording has been made by mistake, the recordings will be deleted.

Graduation Requirements

Completion of 147 credits (ECTS: 240) courses over 4 years and 60 working days of internship are required.

Employment Opportunities

As a Psychological Counselor and Psychotherapist in Private Psychological Counseling and Psychotherapy centres, in public and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, RAM – “Guidance Research Centres”; Academic staff at universities and Psychological Counseling units of universities; Military High Schools, Non-Commissioned Officer Vocational Schools, In Military Academy, Turkish Armed Forces Guidance and Psychological Counseling Centers; in private special education and rehabilitation centers; in nurseries, kindergartens, kindergartens, study centers, private teaching institutions; As a permanent pedagogue and expert witness in Family and Children’s courts (He examines family problems, parent-child relations; writes Expert Reports in cases such as custody, adoption, divorce, marriage permission, personal relationship and other judicial cases); Pedagogue title in Probation Offices and Prisons and; in the delivery of children who have been brought together with their parents through enforcement; in the Police Academy within the General Directorate of Police, in the Psychological Counseling Centers of the Police Vocational Schools, in the Guidance and Counseling Offices, in the Children’s Branch and Bureau Heads; in the nurseries, kindergartens, affiliated with the Social Services and Child Protection Agency. Dormitories, Community Centers, Family Counseling Centers (They take an active role in solving family problems by working as Family Counselors, especially in Family Counseling Centers); İş-kur, private companies, local governments, health institutions, public education centers, human resources and education services of businesses and They work as career counselors in companies.
