Meaningful Ramadan Aid Event in Lefke by AUC Students

As part of the Communication Skills course taught by Dr. Emel Yılmaz, a faculty member in the Department of Visual Communication Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts, American University of Cyprus (AUC), students from the School of Health Professions (SMYO) participated in a charity event organized in collaboration with the Lefke Aid and Community Association on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., specifically for the month of Ramadan.

According to information provided by the AUC Communication and Press Coordination Office, as part of the event, students had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with communication processes by observing concepts such as social solidarity, empathy, and social responsibility firsthand. At the same time, through interactions with different social groups, they were able to develop their professional communication skills.

Dr. Emel Yılmaz, a faculty member at AUC and also the President of the Lefke Aid and Community Association, noted that the month of Ramadan is a special time that reinforces the spirit of sharing, mutual aid, and unity, stating, “Events like these contribute not only to students’ academic development but also to their growth in terms of human values. “This initiative, carried out in keeping with the spirit of Ramadan, has made a significant contribution to strengthening social awareness,” she stated.

Prof. Dr. Turgay Akalın, Director of the Vocational School of Applied Sciences, emphasized that this event, organized as part of the Communication Skills course, is of great importance for the students’ professional development, stating, “The communication experiences our students gain in the field are extremely valuable for reinforcing their theoretical knowledge and preparing them for their professional careers.”
