A Cooperation Protocol was Signed Between the American University of Cyprus and Memur-Sen

A cooperation protocol on scholarships and education was signed between Cyprus American University (AUC) and the Turkish Confederation of Public Employees’ Unions (Memur-Sen), Education-Bir-Sen TRNC Representation. The agreement, signed between KAÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Gökçe Keçeci and Education-Bir-Sen TRNC Representative İsmail Celfin, was shaped by mutual trust, goodwill, and a commitment to sustainable cooperation between the two institutions.

According to information provided by the AUC Communication and Press Coordination Office, the signing ceremony was held at the AUC Alayköy Campus. The ceremony was attended by AUC Rector Prof. Dr. Gökçe Keçeci and Education-Bir-Sen KKTC Representative İsmail Celfin, as well as AUC General Secretary Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alp Karaca and AUC Foreign Relations Representative Dr. Emel Yılmaz. Under the protocol, union members affiliated with the Memur-Sen Confederation and their first-degree relatives (spouses and children) will be eligible for various scholarships and discounts in the associate and bachelor’s degree programs at the Cyprus American University. According to the protocol: Children of union members who have completed four years of uninterrupted high school education in the TRNC will be eligible for a 90% scholarship, excluding certain health programs. Members who enroll based on the results of the Turkish Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS), along with their spouses and children, will be eligible for a 25% scholarship. Additionally, mutual cooperation is aimed at areas such as summer school and joint curriculum studies, short-term certificate programs, scientific meetings, and support for publications and materials.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, AUC Rector Prof. Dr. Gökçe Keçeci said:

“We operate based on the principle of equal opportunity in education. Thanks to this protocol we have signed with a well-established confederation like Memur-Sen, we will have the opportunity to reach more students and make higher education more accessible. We are ready to collaborate on future-oriented projects in line with our common goals.”

Eğitim-Bir-Sen KKTC Representative İsmail Celfin stated in his remarks, “This protocol we have signed with AUC will provide tangible benefits to our members and their families. However, beyond that, we have established this collaboration based on trust, shared values, and our belief in the transformative power of education.”
