AUC Takes Its Place in International Representation with Academic and Student Participation

KAU exhibited a strong representation in the academic world by making scientific contributions at both academic and student level in two separate prestigious international congresses in June and July.

The VIIth International Mediterranean Scientific Research Congress, organized in cooperation with Hatay Mustafa Kemal University, Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University and ASES (Academy of Scientific and Educational Studies), was held in Hatay between 13-15 June 2025. KAU participated in this important congress with a study conducted within the scope of MED 445 Media and Identity course and the work of Dr. Emel Yılmaz’s students Bekir Bayburt and Melek Engin, who participated via video conference.

The paper presented at the congress, titled “New Media, Hate Speech and a Critical Evaluation on the Dilber Character in the TV series Pearl Grains”, provided a critical approach to the problems of representation and hate speech in contemporary media.

Prof. Dr. Emel Yılmaz also presented her academic study titled “Semiotic Investigation of Identity, Authority and Gender in the Commissar Shakespeare Film” within the scope of the 2nd International Scientific Research Congress organized by ASES and Trakya University on July 04-06.

Prof. Dr. Yılmaz expressed his satisfaction with the congress in the following words: “It was very valuable for me to take part in this congress where critical thinking, interdisciplinary approach and qualified academic sharing are at the forefront. I would like to thank Trakya University and the ASES organization team for the importance they attach to scientific contributions.”

Rector Keçeci: “Student-Academician Cooperation is the Cornerstone of Scientific Education”

KAU Rector Prof. Dr. Gökçe Keçeci made the following statement: “As the American University of Cyprus, we consider not only individual academic achievements but also scientific productions carried out together with students as a great value. The studies presented by Prof. Dr. Emel Yılmaz, both with her individual paper and with her students, reflect the interdisciplinary and participatory education vision of our university. The active role of our students in this process strengthens their academic development and makes our education process more dynamic and productive.”
