KAU Students Received Certificate of Appreciation from Gönyeli Municipality

The students of the Communication Skills Course conducted by American University of Cyprus (AUC) Faculty Member Dr. Emel Yılmaz were appreciated with an exemplary project they carried out with a sense of social responsibility. The charity bazaar organized for the benefit of Gönyeli Animal Shelter and the shelter visit both raised social awareness and created a strong cooperation environment with the local government. The event, which highlighted social awareness and local cooperation, was honored by Gönyeli-Alayköy Mayor Hüseyin Amcaoğlu with a certificate of appreciation.
Within the scope of the “Communication Skills” course conducted by KAU Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Visual Communication Design Lecturer Dr. Emel Yılmaz, KAU students organized a meaningful charity bazaar for the benefit of Gönyeli Animal Shelter on May 9, 2025. The proceeds from the bazaar were personally delivered to Gönyeli Animal Shelter by Dr. Emel Yılmaz and her students. During the visit, the students met with Gönyeli- Alayköy Municipality Veterinary-Health Branch Officer Hüseyin Menderes and the shelter staff and made on-site observations by getting information about the shelter conditions.
After the event, Dr. Emel Yılmaz and the accompanying students visited Gönyeli-Alayköy Mayor Hüseyin Amcaoğlu in his office. Municipality Vice President İsmail Kofalı was also present during the visit. In his statement during the visit, Mayor Amcaoğlu expressed his satisfaction for the sensitivity of the students to social responsibility projects and said, “KAU Students and academicians exhibited an exemplary unity for animal friends. This event is of great importance both in terms of raising social awareness and strengthening the spirit of solidarity, and we wish it to continue.”
Prof. Dr. Emel Yılmaz drew attention to the cooperation with local administrations and said: “Our aim with this project was to equip our students not only with academic knowledge but also with a sense of social responsibility. This meaningful cooperation with Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality enabled our students to gain experience in the field and establish strong ties with the society.
