Meaningful Solidarity from AUC Students with the ‘One Paw One Hope’ Project

The “One Paw, One Hope” Social Responsibility Project, carried out as part of the “Communication Skills” course for the 2025-2026 Fall Semester led by Dr. Emel Yılmaz, Faculty Member of the Department of Visual Communication Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts at American University of Cyprus (AUC), received great appreciation for the students’ sensitivity and social contribution.

As part of the project, students first purchased food for the Nicosia Shelter with the proceeds from a bazaar organized in collaboration with the Lefke Aid and Community Association at the AUC Alayköy Campus on October 22, 2025. Continuing the project, students visited the Nicosia Shelter on November 5, 2025, and delivered their donations to Emre Çocuk, the shelter manager. During the visit, AUC students observed the living conditions of the animals at the shelter and learned about the shelter’s operations, needs, and volunteer processes.

Following the visit, the students used the proceeds from a charity bazaar they had previously organized to purchase pet food and basic necessities, which they donated to the Nicosia Shelter. This meaningful support strengthened both the students’ social awareness and their spirit of solidarity.

Dr. Emel Yılmaz said the following in her statement about the project:

“It was a great pleasure for us to see our students from different faculties come together around love and empathy for a common purpose during this project, which lasted about a month. This work, carried out within the framework of the Communication Skills course, aimed to develop our students not only academically but also in terms of human values. Thanks to this wonderful collaboration with the Turkish Municipality of Nicosia, our students gained field experience, learned to act with a sense of responsibility, and experienced the pride of contributing to society. I believe that such projects will leave a lasting impression on our students.”
