Fashion Design
Program Objective
The Fashion and Textile Design Associate Degree Program aims to educate creative and productive designers who are equipped with aesthetic knowledge, technical skills, and practical competencies in the fields of weaving design, print design, and fashion design. Over the course of four semesters (two years), the program prepares students to meet the demands of the design world and the fashion and textile industries.
Vision
The Fashion and Textile Design Program envisions guiding students to develop their vision in the fields of art and design by adapting to modern technologies, communication standards, and the competitive environment of today’s creative industries.
Mission
The mission of the Fashion and Textile Design Associate Degree Program is to cultivate qualified, well-equipped, ethically grounded, creative, and research-oriented individuals who possess a clear understanding of the sector and are ready to take on responsibilities within it.
Program Description
Throughout the program, students take courses focused on weaving, printing, and fashion design—fields that differ in technical execution but align in design principles. The curriculum aims to translate these three disciplines into original artistic and design-oriented outputs. The educational experience is enriched through factory and fair visits, museum tours, conferences, and exhibitions. Instruction is delivered in pattern, printing, and weaving workshops as well as in computer design studios.
Admission Requirements
Any student holding a high school diploma, whether a citizen of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) or an international student, may apply for admission to the associate degree program.
Graduation Requirements
Graduation requirements for associate degree programs are determined based on minimum credit loads aligned with student workload and the qualifications framework for higher education, as set by the relevant academic board. Curriculum content is structured accordingly.
To be eligible for an associate degree diploma, students must meet all academic requirements specified in the Cyprus American University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations. This includes successfully completing the required number of credits.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates of the Fashion and Textile Design Associate Degree Program can work in ready-to-wear and custom-made clothing businesses, as well as in companies producing fashion accessories. They may take on roles in model development, pattern making, production, marketing, quality control, and research and development (R&D).
Additionally, graduates can pursue careers in industrial design, textile design, or graphic design within various enterprises. Given the historical and cultural significance of clothing and accessories and the ever-evolving nature of fashion, combined with increasing consumer interest tied to economic conditions, the future of this profession is considered promising. Graduates may also establish their own studios to pursue more artistic and creative work independently.
