The Department of Ornamental Plant Cultivation at AUC Brings Education to Life
- 22 December 2025

Practical training activities continue to be carried out as part of the Professional Practice course conducted in the Ornamental Plant Cultivation Department by Dr. Esra Köksaldı, a faculty member of the Ornamental Plant Cultivation Department.
As part of the course, the first step was to perform the layering process on seasonal flowers. Next, the cutting technique was applied for English jasmine; the prepared cuttings were tied and planted in the rooting greenhouse. Continuing the application, cuttings were taken from the Pakistani night plant and planted in pre-prepared bags.
In the final stage, the rooting status of the Madagascar jasmine plants in the rooting greenhouse was observed together with the students. Plants that had completed rooting were placed in bags, arranged neatly in the resting greenhouse, and watered.
Dr. Esra Köksaldı, who evaluated the applied studies,
“The aim of this course is to ensure that our students learn ornamental plant cultivation not only theoretically but also through hands-on practice. The work carried out in greenhouses, such as taking cuttings, rooting, and maintenance, not only develops students’ professional skills but also strengthens their connection with nature. Education only becomes permanent when it comes into contact with the soil,” he said.
