General Information

The education provided by our Faculty is rooted in the “Turkish Legal System” and closely mirrors the curricula of Law Faculties across Turkey. Diplomas awarded by our Faculty are fully recognized and accredited by the Turkish Higher Education Board. Additionally, the Faculty offers a diverse range of elective courses, enriching students’ learning experiences and allowing them to explore various areas of law.

Mission

The mission of the Law Department at the American University of Cyprus is to provide a rigorous, dynamic, and ethically grounded legal education that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to thrive in a global legal environment. We are committed to fostering critical thinking, professional responsibility, and a deep understanding of national and international legal systems while promoting justice, human rights, and the rule of law.

Vision

The Law Department of the American University of Cyprus envisions becoming a leading center of legal education and research in the Eastern Mediterranean and beyond. We aim to cultivate a new generation of legal professionals and scholars who are innovative, socially conscious, and equipped to shape the future of law through excellence in teaching, interdisciplinary research, and impactful community engagement.

Education

The goal of legal education is to cultivate inquisitive legal professionals who adhere to professional ethics and values, while possessing a strong understanding of the key concepts, rules, principles, and resources of the law. Recognizing the importance of proficiency in a second language within the legal field, our Faculty offers an intensive English language program for law students. In addition to theoretical coursework, the Faculty focuses on developing students’ critical thinking and analytical skills, enabling them to effectively tackle complex legal challenges.

Facilities

The Faculty of Law is equipped with numerous classrooms, amphitheatres, and computer laboratories to support educational activities. It also features a reading hall, offices for academic and administrative staff, and a cafeteria to meet the food and beverage needs of students. The American University of Cyprus Library provides an extensive collection of resources, books, periodicals, and electronic databases on law, supporting the in-depth learning and research requirements of students.
The Faculty also boasts a dedicated computer and study hall for students. Students can actively engage in discussions about books, films, and theater plays within the educational context. Furthermore, students gain valuable insight into legal issues at the macro level through virtual court hearings conducted in our virtual court hall.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Faculty of Law have the opportunity to pursue careers as lawyers, judges, prosecutors, and notaries. Additionally, they can take on administrative roles such as governors, district governors, inspectors, and specialists. The field of law offers a diverse range of career opportunities, providing graduates with both a prestigious and promising future.
