Guidance and Psychological Counseling
PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM
The main aim of the Psychological Counseling and Guidance master’s program is to train qualified specialist psychological counselors, to support developments in the field and to pioneer innovations in the field. In addition, scientific studies aim to contribute to the literature in the field of counseling and guidance and to disseminate counseling and guidance practices. The main purpose of education and training activities, in line with the general objectives of the program; to train expert psychological counselors who can think scientifically, research and constantly renew themselves. Guidance and psychological counseling master’s program aims to train individuals with sufficient knowledge and skills in the field who will contribute to the guidance and psychological counseling services that are increasingly needed today. In line with this general aim, it is aimed to increase the competencies of the students accepted to this program in areas such as career counseling, group counseling, individual counseling, counseling principles and techniques, post-traumatic counseling, old age problems, counseling theories, addiction psychology.
VISION
The field of guidance and psychological counseling is an integral part of education and training activities. Psychological counselors who continue their professional lives in this field need to increase their professional and academic knowledge and skills. The guidance and psychological counseling program aims to put this necessity into practice.
MISSION
Guidance and Psychological Counseling education is gaining importance day by day. Especially in the face of social, cultural, economic and technological changes, our country needs to train psychological counselors who are open to changes, productive, analytical and critical thinking, adopt ethical principles, and engage in qualified scientific research activities. In this sense, it is to train psychological counselors who have the knowledge, skills, attitudes and experience to carry out activities specific to the field of psychological counseling, who can criticize and follow innovations in the field.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Guidance and Psychological Counseling Master’s Program includes the training of experts who can follow the problems / issues specific to the field and the developments in the field in detail and carefully, who can propose new and original solutions to the problems of the field, and who can discuss and discuss the issues and problems of the field from a different and deep perspective.
REGISTRATION AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To have a bachelor’s degree from a domestic or foreign equivalent institution. To have a minimum score of 55 or above in any score type from ALES. (Validity period is five years. ALES exams taken before 27.09.2017 are valid for three years from the date of announcement).
For exemption from the English language exam, a score of 55 from YÖKDİL, YDS or 66 from TOEFL IBT, taken within the last five years.
- If the student has a bachelor’s degree from a different field of Social Sciences, he/she must have completed the scientific preparation courses in order to graduate from this program.
- The maximum completion period of the Master’s Program with Thesis is 6 semesters, 4 semesters of course + 2 semesters of thesis.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
The student does not need to do an internship in order to graduate. In order to graduate, if enrolled in the program with thesis, it is required to complete the “Master’s Thesis” and be successful in the thesis defense.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates of the department can work as expert psychological counselors in public and private schools, guidance and research centers, university psychological counseling centers, psychological counseling and rehabilitation centers in military units. Since they graduate with the title of expert psychological counselor, they can work as psychological counselors in counseling centers. It also gives students who want to continue their academic studies the right to apply to doctoral programs.
