Gönyeli Municipality Vice Mayor İsmail Kofalı visited AUC

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Emel Yılmaz and with the participation of students, a charity bazaar was organized for the benefit of Gönyeli Animal Shelter as part of the social responsibility project within the scope of the Communication Skills Course. On the occasion of this meaningful event, İsmail Kofalı, Vice President of Gönyeli – Alayköy Municipality, representing the Mayor of Gönyeli – Alayköy Municipality Mr. Hüseyin Amcaoğlu, visited the Rector of the American University of Cyprus (AUC) Prof. Dr. Gökçe Keçeci in his office.

Gönyeli- Alayköy Municipality Director Ferruh Dülgeroğlu and Dr. Emel Yılmaz, who conducts the Communication Skills course, were also present during the visit. During the meeting, joint projects, social responsibility activities and collaborations that will provide social benefits between the university and the municipality were discussed.

After the meeting, AUC Rector Prof. Dr. Keçeci and the accompanying delegation, together with Gönyeli- Alayköy Municipality Vice President İsmail Kofalı, visited the bazaar area and supported the event.

Making statements about the bazaar, AUC Rector Prof. Dr. Gökçe Keçeci stated that it is proud that university students act with a sense of social responsibility,

“Today, not only a bazaar was organized here, but also a meaningful gathering where our young people demonstrated their social sensitivity. This event, which draws attention to animal rights and the needs of shelters, shows how sensitive our university is not only academically but also in terms of ethical and social values. We wish to expand this impact with joint projects to be carried out with Gönyeli- Alayköy Municipality.”

Gönyeli- Alayköy Municipality Vice President İsmail Kofalı emphasized that the sensitivity exhibited by the students was admirable and said, “It was very valuable for us to witness an event that emerged here today with the voluntary efforts of young people. This organization, which was organized to draw the attention of the society and raise awareness on an important issue such as animal shelter, is a concrete example of the strong cooperation that can be established between local governments and universities. As the municipality, we are ready to provide all kinds of support for the continuation of these activities.”
